Boston Tree Party Inauguration

Hi-ho to the Boston Tree Party! A collaborative campaign to plant over a hundred trees in civic places across Greater Boston! I went to the inaugural planting this sunday at the Rose Kennedy Greenway to hear founder and chairmen of the Party, Lisa Gross, talk more about her ambitious project. I know nothing about apple trees or tree planting, but I got so much energy listening to her speak. It will take at least four years till the city sees any apples on these trees, and years more for it to mature. And I think that’s the beauty of it. This project is a collective, social undertaking. Its promoting the fruits of civic engagement, calling on each of us to think about improving community health, public space, and greening our city. There’s a movement taking root in Greater Boston!
